Why Portpatrick? Why not!
Portpatrick is a pretty seaside village on the Western shore of the Rhins of Galloway peninsula, in South West Scotland. Located at the very end of the A77, and facing directly to Ireland, your guests will easily find their way.
Visitors often come to birdwatch or walk in this area of outstanding natural beauty, and then linger in the cosy inns and cafes.
There are many accommodation options nearby, and beautiful venues available for your wedding function. For instance, Ardwell Glass house is just 15 minutes away.
Perhaps the charm of Portpatrick will be revealed as you explore the small winding roads between cottages that lead to the harbour, which has ample space for parking, just a stroll from St Ninian’s.
The ‘wee’ church in Portpatrick has encouraged visitors and locals in prayer, song and worship for almost 90 years. You are very welcome to add your story to the history of this church.
Why choose a wedding in church?
The first thing to do is to contact our priest in charge, Elizabeth, and have a conversation about the kind of wedding you are looking for.
Weddings in the Scottish Episcopal Church are rarely ‘off the peg’, each is tailored to the couple.
Even if you consider yourselves to be more spiritual than religious, St Ninian’s can offer you a wedding ceremony that feels like a blessing on your marriage. It provides a time to pause, to involve family or friends, and to give thanks for the journey that led you both to this moment.
You will be significantly involved in planning and choosing the elements of the service, using resources from the Scottish Episcopal Church’s marriage rite.
We are able to marry couples where one or both have been married before, provided the bishop consents. Elizabeth will talk about this when you meet her.
Remember! No one can get married in Scotland without a Marriage Schedule from the Registrar Service, which is run by the local council.
